Peer Support Volunteer - Diabetes Queensland

Position Description: Connect2 is a telephone peer-to-peer support service for Queenslanders diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Diabetes Queensland is seeking skilled and passionate volunteers with type 2 diabetes to be trained in our peer-to-peer support service to help others who have also been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. The successful candidate will make regular phone calls to individuals to provide practical and emotional support to help people come to terms with living with type 2 diabetes. Successful applicants will receive online training and ongoing support from Diabetes Queensland staff. Position Location: Milton

Required Skills / Experience: This is an outstanding opportunity for a person who has experience with managing type 2 diabetes and who has a good personal understanding of the physical and emotional implications of the condition and a positive attitude to living with diabetes. If you feel able to assist someone else to cope with type 2 diabetes please contact Diabetes Queensland.

Gained Skills / Experience: Every day over 60 Queenslanders are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. They can benefit greatly from talking to someone with a positive experience of living with type 2 diabetes. Diabetes Queensland staff offer comprehensive training to all volunteers in aspects of living well with type 2 diabetes and telephone communication skills.
